Chasing Game – 1

[Don’t think you can get rid of me just because you entered university]

When Lu Zhaoshen went downstairs, his father, Lu Guoyuan, happened to meet him with a reluctant expression. He rubbed his hands and forced a smile, lowering his voice and saying to Lu Zhaoshen, “The young master of the Xu family is inside.”

Lu Zhaoshen looked up towards the teal-coloured window glass that revealed a faint silhouette of a person. His expression remained unchanged, only nodding to his father.

“I know you hate him. That kid, he’s actually not a bad person, he’s just spoiled and a little lawless.” Lu Guoyuan had been driving for the Xu family for many years and had some understanding of the Xu family. “Just in time today, the both of you start school on the same day. I don’t know what’s the matter with him, but he doesn’t want to take a plane nor the high-speed rail and insists on me driving him there. I can’t refuse when I’m on their payroll.”

Lu Guoyuan patted Lu Zhaoshen on the shoulder and gestured for him to get into the car. “Just pretend he doesn’t exist, don’t make a scene being unhappy.”

Lu Zhaoshen nodded and walked straight to the side of the car to put his luggage in the trunk, then walked to the passenger seat, opened the car door, and sat inside.

He didn’t look back, but he still caught a glimpse of the person from the corner of his eye. The person was wearing a flashy coat, hair curled with a perm, his pointed chin was hidden in the collar of the coat, and his eyelashes were hanging with an obedient yet wild appearance.

As soon as he sat down, he heard the person let out a ‘tsk’.

Outside the car, Lu Guoyuan hastily finished smoking a cigarette. He quickly sat inside and smiled at the person in the back seat, saying, “Xing Xing, Zhaoshen starts school the same day as you, so let him ride along today. Don’t be angry, okay.”

Xu Xingzhe lazily lifted his gaze from his phone screen and let out a “hmm” sound from his nose, unable to distinguish between joy and anger.

Although this child was usually pampered, he was rarely so impolite. Lu Guoyuan only thought that he was playing his game so enthusiastically that he had no time to answer, so he smiled awkwardly and closed the car door. He then opened the car window to dissipate the smell of smoke from his body.

Sitting next to him, Lu Zhaoshen wasn’t playing with his phone, just sitting quietly as he watched the distant hills.

From Xicheng to Nangang, mountain to sea, there was a distance of 500 kilometers.

“Xing Xing, how come you want to go to Nangang University? It’s near the sea, don’t you dislike seafood?” Lu Guoyuan asked.

At first, Xu Xingzhe didn’t speak, but when Lu Guoyuan thought he didn’t hear him and was about to shut up and stop talking, Xu Xingzhe suddenly spoke up and said, “The person I like is there.”

Lu Guoyuan was stunned for a moment and then laughed, “So that’s how it is. You should go then.”

Xu Xingzhe didn’t answer, just held his phone between his fingers and leisurely spun it around, then lowered his head and continued to play his game.

None of the three spoke along the way, only the background sound of Xu Xingzhe’s swords, guns, arrows, and axes colliding and fighting filled the car.

Halfway through the car ride at the service area, Lu Guoyuan couldn’t help but smoke. He greeted Xu Xingzhe and was about to go out for a smoke. When he got up, he called out to Lu Zhaoshen, “Why don’t you go out and get some air?”

As Lu Zhaoshen lifted himself slightly, he felt a kick on the back of his seat.

He then stopped moving and shook his head at his father, “No need.”

The driver’s door closed, and as soon as Lu Guoyuan headed towards the public restroom, the person in the back seat leaned over and grabbed Lu Zhaoshen’s arm, ordering, “Come sit in the back.”

Lu Zhaoshen ignored him, but Xu Xingzhe refused to accept it, “If you don’t come to the back, I’ll go to the front. Do you want your dad to see me sitting on you?”

When Lu Zhaoshen glanced at him coldly, Xu Xingzhe reflexively released his hand. However, due to time constraints, he quickly grabbed it again and said, “Hurry up!”

There were people coming and going outside the car window, with laughter and conversation approaching and moving into the distance. Lu Zhaoshen’s complete indifference accelerated the anxiety from the limited amount of time they already had. Xu Xingzhe became urgent, “Are you not afraid that your dad will lose his job? And your brother, he is still working at my dad’s company now–”

“Is it fun?” Lu Zhaoshen turned his head to look at him.

Xu Xingzhe said one word at a time, “It is fun.”

Lu Zhaoshen finally pushed open the car door and transferred from the passenger seat to the back seat. Before he could think of any reason to use as an excuse to his father later, Xu Xingzhe straddled him.

Like a little animal in heat, he eagerly kissed Lu Zhaoshen’s lips. He knew that they didn’t have much time and were in an inappropriate place, and Lu Zhaoshen didn’t respond much either, not even to himself, so Xu Xingzhe could only hug Lu Zhaoshen’s neck and relieve his unusual restlessness through his one-sided kissing.

His lips were not moist enough and Lu Zhaoshen’s teeth were not willing to open for him either.

Xu Xingzhe angrily bit Lu Zhaoshen’s earlobe and then began to attack his neck and Adam’s apple.

At the same time, there was a sudden sound of hurried footsteps outside the car. Xu Xingzhe instinctively moved away, his back abruptly pressed against the back of the passenger seat. Lu Zhaoshen reached out to hold his buttocks.

Fortunately, it wasn’t Lu Guoyuan. Xu Xingzhe breathed a sigh of relief and refocused his gaze on Lu Zhaoshen’s face.

The face that he liked however he looked at it.

The person who never smiled at him, didn’t look him in the eye, disdained being in the same car as him, and even refused to tell him about his university entrance exam ambitions.

He bit Lu Zhaoshen’s lips and said fiercely, “Don’t think you can get rid of me by going to university.”

Lu Zhaoshen’s gaze was still light. Xu Xingzhe saw an increasingly obvious impatience in it. He grabbed Lu Zhaoshen’s chin and forced him to look at him, “Anyway, I’ve been chasing you for two years now, might as well be another four years. I can afford it.”

  ……

When Lu Guoyuan returned to the car, Lu Zhaoshen was sitting side by side with Xu Xingzhe in the back. He was holding Xu Xingzhe’s phone in his hand and was focused on clicking on something, while Xu Xingzhe was leaning over slightly to direct him.

“I don’t know why my phone suddenly went black,” Xu Xingzhe briefly explained to Lu Guoyuan.

“Oh, oh,” Lu Guoyuan glanced at Lu Zhaoshen and smiled, “Zhaoshen, this kid, is quite familiar with electronics.”

“Really?”

Xu Xingzhe sighed with relief and turned to look back at Lu Zhaoshen. His chest was pressed against Lu Zhaoshen’s arm through two layers of fabric, and his right hand was pressed against the back of Lu Zhaoshen’s clothes, waiting to make a move after accumulating his energy. As Lu Guoyuan focused on starting the car in the front, he leaned in.

“See if there’s anything in the settings?” Xu Xingzhe deliberately approached, pretending to be really watching Lu Zhaoshen fix his phone. His hair rubbed against Lu Zhaoshen’s cheek, making him itch with discomfort.

His breath sprayed on Lu Zhaoshen’s neck, and when Lu Zhaoshen moved to the side, Xu Xingzhe stuck even closer.

Lu Zhaoshen’s waist was firm and toned, Xu Xingzhe was so fond of it that he was unwilling to let go.

But his happy moment did not last long. As the car entered the city of Nangang during peak hours, it slowed down. Lu Guoyuan’s arm rested on the car window, frequently turning back to talk to them.

Xu Xingzhe sat bored in his seat, wondering to himself, why is this car driving so fast?

By the time they arrived at Nangang University, it was almost one o’clock in the afternoon. Lu Guoyuan helped Xu Xingzhe remove his luggage from the trunk and had intended to help him move it to the dormitory building, but Xu Xingzhe refused. He said he could do it himself.

Nangang University was one of the top-ranked comprehensive universities in the country, and Lu Zhaoshen’s major, finance, was ranked first. As soon as he entered the school he saw the sign for the business school prominently displayed, and as he dragged his suitcase over to it, he was approached by a girl wearing a volunteer ribbon, explaining the enrollment process to him with a smile on her face.

His luggage was picked up by someone and placed on a check-in luggage cart.

Lu Zhaoshen took the list and black pen eagerly handed over by the xue-jie1, and after he signed in, she took out her cell phone again and tried to get Lu Zhaoshen to add her on WeChat in the name of the student union.

Lu Zhaoshen paused and suddenly turned to look around before taking out his phone. Soon, he saw Xu Xingzhe standing all alone at the entrance, dragging his two large luggage. He hadn’t seen the sign of his school yet and was craning his neck to look around.

When their gaze met, Xu Xingzhe stood still and stared at Lu Zhaoshen and the girl beside him without moving.

The girl’s hand was still raised and there were a lot of people around. The hustle and bustle flooded into all their senses, making Lu Zhaoshen unable to see Xu Xingzhe’s appearance clearly.

He turned around, took out his phone, and politely added the xue-jie’s WeChat.

But he couldn’t hear a single word she said after that.

An uncontrollable panic swept over Xu Xingzhe.

University wasn’t like high school. People from all over the world formed a huge community. On the campus of Nangang University, there was no support from his father’s power or familiar teachers and classmates. This made Xu Xingzhe feel his insignificance and powerlessness for the first time. He followed Lu Zhaoshen to the dorm area and watched as Lu Zhaoshen grew further and further away from him, but he was beyond his reach.

Lu Zhaoshen lived in Building 15 in the eastern district, while Xu Xingzhe was in Building 13, located nearly fifty meters away.

Xu Xingzhe threw down his luggage and rushed over, grabbed Lu Zhaoshen’s sleeve and said in a voice that only the two of them could hear, “Help me, I don’t know how to make the bed.”

Lu Zhaoshen didn’t want to pay attention to him, “You can ask your roommate to teach you.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Xu Xingzhe, what did you promise me?”

Xu Xingzhe shook his head like a rattle, holding onto Lu Zhaoshen’s sleeve and saying, “I came here because of you, you have to be responsible for me.”

He knew what Lu Zhaoshen would answer—nothing but “your imagination needs to be cured” and “you can’t be too shameless”, so he didn’t give Lu Zhaoshen the opportunity and directly threatened in his ear, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll publicize our relationship?”

Lu Zhaoshen suddenly furrowed his eyebrows, his gaze towards Xu Xingzhe filled with disdain and disgust.

Actually, Xu Xingzhe didn’t want to make a big move so quickly, but the unfamiliar atmosphere around him made him afraid. He had been king of the mountain in Xicheng for a long time, and when he arrived at Nangang, where the salty and humid sea breeze blew, he immediately became a little kitten.

“I still have photos of you kissing me, and videos! “Xu Xingzhe shook Lu Zhaoshen’s sleeve and raised an eyebrow, carrying a claw-like hook in his eyes. His voice was neither loud nor soft, a whisper but a threat full of intimidation, “Zhaoshen-gege, do you want to let the xue-jie from just now have a look too?”

“Xu Xingzhe, you can’t be too shameless.”

“It’s fine if you want to save face, we can’t be separated anyway.”

Lu Zhaoshen sighed helplessly as he reached out to Xu Xingzhe and said coldly, “What’s the building number?”

Xu Xingzhe was stunned for two seconds before he reacted. He quickly ran to the spot and pulled his luggage over, then happily murmured, “Building 13, room 316 on the third floor. I’m too unlucky, there isn’t even an elevator. I heard this is an old campus and the dorm conditions are average. I don’t know if my roommate is good, but if it really doesn’t work, I’ll ask my dad to find a way to get me into your dorm”

Lu Zhaoshen cast a glance at Xu Xingzhe, who immediately shut up and made a zipping gesture over his lips.

Lu Zhaoshen then placed his suitcase at the dorm manager auntie’s office in Building 13, and falsely claimed to be Xu Xingzhe’s cousin before going upstairs to help him settle down. Who knew if Lu Zhaoshen’s face was too pleasing to middle-aged women, but the auntie didn’t even ask him to register. With a wave of her hand, she smiled and let Lu Zhaoshen in.

Xu Xingzhe followed behind Lu Zhaoshen as he turned to the stairs. He didn’t even want his suitcase and pressed Lu Zhaoshen against the wall and kissed him, calling him biao-ge2. Then, before Lu Zhaoshen got angry, he bounced past and hauled over his suitcase to drag it up to the third floor.

The undergraduate level of Nangang University was a unified four-person dormitory. When Xu Xingzhe arrived, there were two people in dorm 316. One was Cheng Yuanqing, a boy with a crew cut who greeted Xu Xingzhe with a smile. The other was Dai Liang, who was wearing simple sportswear and had placed his basketball on the table conspicuously. When he saw Xu Xingzhe, he was stunned. Maybe it was because Xu Xingzhe was wearing a famous brand and his hair was styled like a celebrity. He was slightly unhappy, but he didn’t fully show it, simply introducing himself as Xu Xingzhe.

Xu Xingzhe didn’t consider himself easy-going when meeting people for the first time and was slightly reserved in front of others. He shot a glance at Lu Zhaoshen, but Lu Zhaoshen ignored him and walked straight in, opening Xu Xingzhe’s luggage. He took out the sheets and compressed mattress, and silently helped Xu Xingzhe make the bed.

Sometimes Xu Xingzhe admired Lu Zhaoshen very much. In any unfamiliar environment, Lu Zhaoshen could use his aloof and indifferent face and easily throw the embarrassing hot potato to someone else while becoming an outsider himself.

Xu Xingzhe thought, I should become aloof and indifferent like him.

So he told Cheng Yuanqing and Dai Liang his name, then flattened his mouth, lowered his eyes, and leaned against the bed with folded arms, watching Lu Zhaoshen help him make the bed.

Lu Zhaoshen’s hands-on ability was as strong as his brain, and soon, Xu Xingzhe’s bed and desk was configured to Xu Xingzhe’s liking.

Lu Zhaoshen tidied up everything in an orderly manner, then pulled out a wet tissue and slowly wiped his hands.

Xu Xingzhe unscrewed the cap of the mineral water bottle and handed it to Lu Zhaoshen’s mouth with great dependence on him.

However, Lu Zhaoshen refused. He threw the used wet tissues into the garbage bag he had just picked up, tied a knot and was about to leave. Xu Xingzhe followed behind him reluctantly, but just as he was about to say something, Dai Liang shouted from behind, “Xingzhe, the instructor asked the students to report to the class group.”

Xu Xingzhe couldn’t move forward, he couldn’t stop Lu Zhaoshen’s footsteps.

Lu Zhaoshen was about to walk out of the door of 316 with a garbage bag in hand, but he came face to face with a person who was dressed in all black and had a gloomy face. There was a natural hostility in his eyes when he saw Lu Zhaoshen, but when he looked across Lu Zhaoshen’s shoulder and saw Xu Xingzhe behind him, he suddenly smiled.

“Little cutie.”

Lu Zhaoshen heard the person say softly.

A burst of irritability arose within him for no reason. He turned to Xu Xingzhe and said, “Go downstairs and take out the garbage.”

Xu Xingzhe happily accepted the garbage bag as if he had received a gift and didn’t notice the person standing at the door.

Hellooo welcome to another novel, this time fluff (with a sprinkle of angst)! I’ve been reading other fan translations and found myself enjoying reading what the tl-er has to say at the end of each chapter, so I thought I’d give it a go for this one 🙂 I’ve read this novel before and it really reminded me of Withdrawal which is one of my favourite fluff / slice of life works !! There are days when I need blood-boiling, teeth-clenching, vomit-inducing angst, but other days I just want to read about two cute people falling in love peacefully yknow, so here is one of those. This one isn’t very in-depth and I wish it could be longer but nonetheless yaoyao does an amazing job in making me want to carve my heart out for the CP ꒰ ˘ ³˘꒱
